One year our 2 or 3 Christmas puddings were served up, a whole pudding per recipient, by clueless local waiters, to clueless local recipients, who were a bit indignant when I grabbed their plates away from them ! - Was much quicker than explaining in my then rather new halting German, that the extremely heavy Xmas Puddings were to be divided for the Whole Table, & we didn't want them poking it about & contaminating it with their germs first. - (Many Germans don't even like strong tasting Xmas Pud - where might they have ejected it ?). If you are at a Xmas dinner somewhere on the planet with lots of non British eaters & waiters, & the Xmas Pud's about to be served - keep an eagle eye out ;-) |
